How did beauty pageants begin?

You all must agree with me that the thrill, pomp and galore that accompanies every beauty pageant is something worth talking about. It isn’t just about who wears the shiniest crown at the end. The performances, outfits and elegance of every contestant is what always leaves the audience enthralled. What do you know about this competition? Because, i am about to give you some shocking revelations!

While there is a number of beauty pageants out now that allows almost everyone to participate, I’m sure you’re also wondering where and how these pageants emerged from. Well let’s delve into it!

Who is the fairest of them all?

I know you must be familiar with this term, but little do you know that it wasn’t just addressed to one of our favorite cartoon character “snowhite” alone!
Dated back to Ancient Greece when Alexandro was summoned to settle the misunderstanding amongst the goddesses on who was more appealing and graceful, his decision one way or the other actually led to the Trojan war. 

But that’s not where we’re at today. Women were mostly selected to grace public events as hostesses. As time passed on, some countries selected beautifully garbed ladies to represent their country’s symbol and culture. I believe that it is safe to say that beauty pageants was adopted from this practice thereon. 

Here’s where it gets interesting. 

Let’s walk down the memory lane together. Remember the circus of fame in the movie “The greatest showman”? It also had a huge role to play in the deep roots of beauty pageants today. P.T Barnum came up with an amazing idea to have a beauty contest that’ll include photographs. These photographs were then displayed in his museum and in turn, the audience will thus vote for their favorite contestant. At the end, those who emerged into the final ten will have oil portraits commissioned for them. 

Consecutively, people accepted this technique to have their beauty judged until it became viral. Then came the very first official pageant, The Miss America pageant in the United States in 1921. 

Overtime, beauty pageants continued to evolve alongside technology and more contestants from different countries had their maiden editions as well as compete in national pageants. 
We personally believe that the very best is yet to come with beauty pageants! There’s always something new to leave you completely marveled at every contest. I can definitely ascertain that I will be here to cheer every amazing Queen on with their achievements!
